BIOGRAPHYAll the members of Sweden's band Abhinanda went to the same school and knew eachother from the local hardcore/punk scene. One of those boring winterdays they formed a band together, beginning with cover songs rehearsed in a bedroom. After a year or so playing local shows and having recordered a demo that no one have heard they decided to do a mini-CD on a record label that they simultaneously started up, called Desperate Fight Records.
This sold about 1000 copies and then it went out of press. Shortly after that a fifth member joined, a guitarrist named Kristofer Steen and then they started to write songs to the full length album 'Senseless'. In the midle of winter in 1993 they went on their first tour in Norway together with friends Refused. They crashed both the van and the car but had some great shows before returning to Umea in Sweden. In the end of the summer of 1994 the album 'Senseless' was recorded and they went on a short tour through Europe put together themselves. They again recieved a good response. Switching Kristofer (who went to Refused) to new guitar guru Par (who came from Refused), the coming winter played a lot of shows in Sweden and we made a short tour in Norway / Sweden with Strife. In the springtime of 1995 they recorded the mini-CD 'Neverending Well of Bliss' (which is the literal meaning of the Sanskrit name 'Abhinanda') and in the summer played some festivals in Sweden. Then a seven week long tour throughout Europe with 108. After the 108 tour Jonas the drummer, left and they added Daniel. He was the big lift for the band and the songs just came up from everywhere.
After a couple of months of rehearsals they decided to enter the studio and recorded another album during the summer of 1996. It was supported by a longer, successful, Swedish tour, then they took off for Germany, Belgium and Austria... January 97 was dedicated to Norway and just a few Swedish shows until Adam was no more in the band. He was replaced with Niklas Rudolfsson, a lo-fi guitarist and a childhood pal to Daniel. A couple of summer festivals where played in Sweden and so until we left for a 4 weeks long Euro/UK tour together with friends Starmarket. In 1998 their last album 'Rumble' was released. Sadly, as far as I'm aware, Abhinanda are no more, although one reunion show was played according to this flyer....
Even more disappointing is the fact that they were no longer Krishna devotees in the later phase of their existence, and became just another band in the ocean of lyrical mediocrity... |
